Intro to Typing Agent and IXL Review

This week we will review important tips to remember when using IXL, and introduce Typing Agent.

Typing is a critical skill for students this year as we will be using digital tools more and more to complete classwork and collaborate with classmates.

Beginning in 4th grade, students are required to be able to type a minimum of one page in a single sitting. In 5th grade, students are required to type two pages in a single sitting. Grades 1-3 need to use digital tools to produce and publish writing, including collaborate with peers. Typing Agent will help prepare students to meet these new standards.

1) Practice logging-in to IXL

3) Review IXL rules and tips/tricks (Don't stress if you can't hit 100 on the Smart Score).

4) Click HERE to access Typing Agent.

5) Enter your username and password (same as Google Apps).

6) Select the Pre-Test under the Testing section.

7) Review basic typing skills.

8) If there's time, start the lesson on Home Row.

IXL Review and Typing Practice

This week we will review how to log-in and navigate IXL. To help with the log-in process and prepare to introduce the online typing program (Typing Agent), we will spend some time reviewing basic typing skills and completing online typing activities.

3) Remember to only complete the 1st grade skill(s) your teacher assigns in-class. You can review any kindergarten skill you want, anytime.

We will review the basics of typing and spend some time practicing before we begin using the online typing program in the coming weeks.

This week, we will continue with computer basics. The main focus will be on focus and control of the mouse while navigating to different websites. We will start with some mouse practice websites and move to some educational activities if there is time.

Account Set-Up

This week we will access the various online programs we will be using this year. Students will receive their log-in information and will learn how to access, log-in and navigate each program.

We will start with Google Apps. This program requires users to change their password the first time they log-in. Log-in with the default password and change it to the one on the parent letter you will receive this week.

3) Once you have accessed your Google Drive, we will explore the various Apps, as well as how students will use Google Apps to complete schoolwork.
